'TP mission'
Teatro Paraguas promotes Hispanic and Latino poetry, literature and theater through bilingual presentations of classic and contemporary works, celebrating the history, richness and diversity of Hispanic and Latino cultures.

Teatro Paraguas maintains a 55-seat studio theatre not only for its own productions but as a community resource for performing and literary arts in northern New Mexico and an incubator for emerging theatre groups, youth groups, individual performers, poets and musicians.

We have produced 33 plays since our debut performance !Neruda: canto porque canto y porque canto! in 2004.

Our work falls roughly into four categories:

  • Poetry performance series, which honors Hispanic and Latino poets through dramatic presentations of their poetry
  • Classic and contemporary plays, including plays by New Mexico playwrights.
  • Cuentos series, which brings traditional Hispanic folk tales to life on the stage
  • Spanish language productions onstage and as radio theater

Since 2008, Teatro Paraguas has produced 12 plays by eight New Mexico playwrights. TP is committed to promoting local writers whose work reflects the Hispanic/Latino/New Mexico experience.

Young actors work alongside experienced adult actors onstage, gaining invaluable experience.

TP Son de domingo events provide opportunities for poets and musicians to perform in an intimate setting on a split-of-donations basis on Sunday evenings.

TP makes its Studio available for classes, workshops, and rehearsals and performances by performers and other theater companies.
